Girish and The Chronicles was formed on 18th of October 2009 in Gangtok, Sikkim (India). Already gaining some reputation as one of the fine rock singers in the country, through You Tube (Search Girish Pradhan), Girish Pradhan formed this band with a motive to revive Hard Rock, Slow Rock, Blues Rock and Heavy Metal. After a few concerts and gigs in their home town such as Sikkim Area Convention Narcotics Anonymous III the band decided to start taking part in some of the major Rock competitions in the country (2010) such as Rock o Phonix - IIT Guwahati. After winning and Gaining Positions in a few such competitions (-Pyrokinesis, Assam Engineering College; - Sinchisis, Guwahati Medical college; - Rock o Phonix, IIT Guwahati; - Eclecia, Heritage College, Kolkata; - Srijan fest, - Avalanche, ISMU Dhanbad etc.) and also the frontman Girish Pradhan, Bagging the best vocalist awards in all of them, and Guitarist, Suraz Karki bagging the best guitarist awards in most of them, the band immediately started getting headlining acts in the College Festivals and such other Rock festivals,thereby quickly gaining a lot of popularity in the press and media and creating a big fan base. The Media became aware of this. Girish and The Chronicles’s performance at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati, on 27th of June, 2010, was telecasted live, nationally on the NE Doordarshan channel.
The band was just doing good, when they took it to another level by participating and winning the auditions held at Shilpgram, Guwahati, for the Suncane Skale Festival, Montenegro, Europe. Their song “Angel’s Angel” or more popularly known as “The Yester Years” was selected to be compiled and judged at the Suncane Skale Music Festival, held at Montenegro, Europe, thus giving the band a chance to represent India on a Global Scale. Out of the many participants from Europe, Girish and The Chronicles represented India in foreign soil and bagged the Silver Trophy for their song “The Yester Years”, or “Angel’s Angel” amongst 26 nations. This created a huge rush in the media and the press giving the band a new status.This helped the band in numerous ways as in securing more concerts and thereby enabling eas access of the band through the internet.
The band was invited in many National Rock Festivals, College Rock Festivals, Pub Rock festivals; as headlining acts/Guest bands covering a huge part of the country and ended the year with 5 concerts in the States of Meghalaya and Assam, playing live at India Club, Guwahati on 31st of December.
Converse Original Band Hunt, held at Guwahati on the 24th of february,2011 was yet another competition for which GnC proved to be a strong contender,this time,also keepin in mind rock magazines and further exposure of their recorded material.Being victorious their song got a chance to be featured in a compilation created by CONVERSE,which would be available in CONVERSE store all over india along with an opportunity to be feauted in the ROLLING STONE magazine.
This was followed by gigs around the country in places like Imphal, Bhuwaneshwar, Guwahati and more, where they were highly appreciated, also adding a huge fan base to the band. Having toured most of the northern part of the country, the band ventured to the south of India, where they made their mark in the city of Bangalore, having performed in prestigious venues such as Hard Rock café, Kyra theatre, Jagriti theatre and such. This brought them more name and also drew a lot of fans overall even in the southern part of the country.
The band’s front-man Girish Pradhan with his side project Silver Tears were the winners of the Yamaha Asian Beat India finals and got selected to perform Live in Seoul, Korea in the month of November 2011. Girish was titled the “Best Vocalist of the country” at the national finals. He was also invited to perform as a guest artist in various pubs and venues in Hong Kong.
The same month, the band also participated in the prestigious Hornbill Rock festival held in Kohima, Nagaland, where they stood as 2nd Runner’s up, also grabbing the “best vocalist” and “best guitarist” title.
The year 2012 kicked off really well. In the month of February, “Girish and The Chronicles” got a chance to perform live at various venues in Hong Kong such as Escape, Players, Manchester United bar and restaurant and were a part of the the annual “Alive III – clash of the titans” rock show and headlined the event. With that, the band was associated to another foreign nation which indeed proved to be an asset to the name and experience of the band.
Presently, touring, Girish and the Chronicles are releasing a Rock/Hard Rock/Heavy Metal album, yet upgrading their list of ventures and Chronicles.
