Gorkhaland Territorial Administration draft lists 17 new constituencies

DARJEELING: The state government released the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) draft on Saturday, listing 17 new constituencies.

The draft will be made public for objections and suggestions. The final list will be prepared before the GTA election, scheduled for July, after taking the feedback.

As per agreement between the government and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, 45 constituencies have been listed in the draft. As of now, the three hill sub-divisions under Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) comprise 28 constituencies.

"We received the draft publication notice of the GTA constituencies for election to the GTA Sabha on Friday evening from Writers'

and have started distributing it to the BDOs, SDOs and police stations in the Hills," said Topden Lama, officer in charge of the election department.

However, the draft does not specify the break up of the constituencies of the sub-divisions of Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong because of the overlapping nature of the delimitation. "It is very difficult to give the break up of the delimitated constituencies because there has been overlapping of certain areas. But, the delimitated areas cover the three hill sub-divisions including the eighteen mouzas," said Lama.

People having any claim, objection and suggestion will have to submit a written application to the Darjeeling DM, SDOs or the BDOs within June 2. "We will scrutinize these and incorporate them if they are justified," said Lama. The final list is expected to be completed by June 5, after which the government will issue the election notification on June 15. If all things fall in place, election to the GTA Sabha will be held by the second week of July.

U want the complete Terai/Dooars area in GTA but lack any support base there....Even John Barla could not get a single Adivasi Individual to sit on the so-called hunger-strike & the whole morcha threat to create unrest in the plains met with muted response & everything fizzled out like numerous threats before.....What could be more hilarious than this !!!.....it's better to accept GTA asap or else the Govt got nothing to lose....Darjeeling Hills with a population of mere 10 lacs cannot dictate terms to the Govt.......it's now or never OR Bimal gurung can carry on talking big within the confines of the Hills & the world beyond Sukna would hardly bother.........Jai Hind !!!!

Any ABC Neta from the Hills is a Flop beyond Sukna so how can they even dictate terms to the Govt.....The only way to stop Darjeeling Hills from total collapse is accepting 'GTA' without any delay otherwise this too might go the 6th Schedule way........Better late than never.....

Another Boka Banauney Niti by the State Government... watch out people...

The additional 17 constituencies don't mean anything... its mere reorganization of the present DGHC area under new names... what we are more interested in is the reorganization of the total area that GTA would cover. Show us the constituencies in Doors and Terai that have been brought under the GTA, then ask us for our comments...

Also you bring out this list today (27th May) and expect the people to give in our feed in by June 2nd??? what's the rush?? We have waited for this long for Gorkhaland we can wait longer... don't rush us into accepting something that we do not want.

We refuse to be coerced into accepting anything till the fate of million plus Gorkhali population of Doors and Terai are sorted out.

No Neta should accept any election till our total area is settled.
