GNLF flag at world’s highest peak

Darjeeling: For the first time in the history of Everest, a flag of political party, Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) flag was hoisted over world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The expedition was organised by Loben Expedition, Darjeeling, comprising of 3 Canadian mountaineers, 3 Sherpa mountaineers. Mr. Chote Sherpa, Nepali citizen, currently stationed at Darjeeling had privileged to place green flag at world’s highest peak. “There is no political motive behind this”, said Mr. Loben Sherpa, organiser of expedition. Mount Everest and Kanchanjanga are closely related with Darjeeling, Tenzing Sherpa - first mountaineer to climb Mount Everest, Mr. Nawang Gambu, twice conqueror of Mount Everest- winner of Padmabhusan, Padmashree, Arjun Award, Kusang Sherpa – conqueror of Everest from four sides with 5 times Everest climber are belongs to Darjeeling, and the name of Darjeeling has not yet been highlighted in this regard, said Mr. Loben Sherpa. Darjeeling do not have its own flag, therefore, the biggest political party of Darjeeling, GNLF’s flag has been selected to represent Darjeeling, said Mr. Loben Sherpa. Expedition with a Canadian team leader Mr. S Desurelt, took two months to complete, on 15 May at 9.10 am, according to Chinese time mountaineered at the height of 8848 meters. |
