The year’s first monsoon strikes in Darjeeling hills

Darjeeling, May 29: The unexpected access of the 48 hours of constant heavy shower caused the havoc in Darjeeling hills which was not imagined just a day before, as the climate was perfectly suitable for the tourists and visitors of Darjeeling hills. The bumper tourist seasons was witnessed in Darjeeling from all parts of India and abroad before this natural calamity but noticeable Bengali tourists were present in Darjeeling town this time.  
   
Most severely affected area in Darjeeling was Frimal village from Singamari were about 22 families were evacuated. Casualties were held at Haridas Hatta, Jawahar Busty (Manpari Busty), Ghoom, Kakjhora. Father and son are still missing from Haridas Hatta landslide location, they were helping in the site as volunteers. Local people are actively supporting the mishap victims and community halls are being widely used for the shelters of landslide victims. Prayers are also being conducted for departed souls in different parts of Darjeeling town.

DarjeelingTimes extremely regrets our inability to update news for last four days as we have been severely affected by the recent nature’s devastation in Darjeeling hills. We have been completely out of electricity for two days. Our Internet connection has been dead as the landslide struck in railway station, our internet cable connection had been multiple damaged and it took four days to fix the problem.
