Lies galore! Bengal government has always cooperated with elected bodies. In fact Bimal gurung is trying to become the father of a new state which is imptractical. How the question of 1907 arise. India was in the hands of British then. Since then so many states has undergone so many changes. Does it mean that West Bengal should be reunited with East Bengal? Bimal is working as an agent of foreign vested interests. If a small state with an area less than 1000 square KM is created then hundreds of such states has to be created for other ethnic communities in India. This will then be the begining of disintegration of India and that is what exactly Bimal wants. If he is sincere, he can demand integration of Darjeeling into Sikkim which too is a land of Nepalis.

We have PHDs..We have masters..We have well educated people..still I don't understand, why we choose our politician with "PANCHVI PAAS"??? Hey Upendra everyone has a view as for me I remember the Eighties before the andolon we were servile we were poor and we were uneducated 98% of the officals were non Gorkhays Then came this man called Subash Gishing whom every one called a mad man even then And you know why he came to power cause even when every one of the so called leaders of our communites sold out to the Bengal Govt at Silugari he was the only one to speak for the people Thus came the demand for Gorkhaland a dream that we fought for with pipe guns and khukari Until all of us understood that we could no longer hold out the Govt It was then only after a peoples mandate (the meeting took place at Gymkhana)that we accepted DGHC.Now we take down our leader and heap on him all the blame what do we mean when we say there has been no development do we mean that money hasent come to our pockets cause if we compare Midnapore to Darjeeling we are definately developed we are better off than most places in India So what exactely do we mean when we say that there has been no development ? Do we mean to say that if some one else is there that there will be no curroption, what about all those people who profited directely or indirectly from the DGHC and belive me there are thousands of them so is Ghishing to blame for all ?As for me my heart died tha day I saw people from the area that he had developed the most so much that people earn their livelihood from there shouted "Subash Gishing murdabad "so much for the renowend Gorkha loyalty. You see..this article should have been published in Nepali..in sunchari or something so that common nepalis in villages could read and understand. 'Good politician but no longer a good leader'.I guess this title would have been more appropiate.Mr.Ghising has to be given a lot of credit for all the achievements.But there was stagnation after sometime.'As we grow we get distanced from our roots' that is a natural fact and no one is exempt from it.The only way to remain attached and closer to your roots is by being humble like the fully laden tree of which our poet(Shri L.P.Devkota perhaps) so beautifully described.That is a trait of a good leader.A good leader requires excellent communication skills.There was a huge communication gap and the common people no longer had any access to him to be able to give him feedback.He grew overconfident and started interfering on personal issues like religion,dress,even the drinking habits.He may have had a hidden agenda for the same but did not bother to explain even to his councillors, forget the common people.How many knew what this sixth schedule meant?Did he bother to explain the benefits to the people, the major stake holders.Earlier he used to hold grand public meetings.When was the last time he held such meetings in Kalimpong (or when was the last time he visited even before this crisis)or for that matter other parts of the hills to boost the party's image.His leadership quotient dropped.A leader is trusted that trust level has eroded to the extent that he is not welcome back home.But he started off well people trusted him at the cost of their lives so you cannot dispute the fact he once was a good leader.BUT absolute power corrupts.When power and success goes into your head your downfall starts it is only a matter of time.That's why he is no longer a good leader.-guru

While reading various articles, there were so many issues discussed in this forum, it lead me to believe each one has their own perspective to note, from past experiences or stories they have heard from their elders or people living to tell the tale. Now history is repeating itself with the “Andolan War II” staring all over again. I particularly liked Upendra’s “Ghising - A politician but not a leader” article the most. As it directly links to the feeling I want to share. It’z amazing how we, Nepalis, from the HILLs where they say if they throw a stone in the crowd, it’s most likely to hit a graduate, go on to nominate ”Gundas-turned- Politicians” and then put them up on a pedestal and follow them blindlessly. I wonder where have all the intellectuals gone??? How come we do not have an intellectual for a leader who is genuinely interested in the welfare of the Hill People and actually interested in bringing about progress and development in an area which has miles to go before we even call ourself a developing town. The irony of it all….we condemn the current leader but look who we have nominated …someone who happens to have a history of “Gunda Gardi” who unfortunately has not been caught in one and many hideous acts which he did under the influence of our current so called Leader. But again if he falters, all the intellectuals who are too educated to be “fearless & Forthcoming” will sit in their drawing room and discuss about his “missed” steps. Most of our intellectuals from our community are educated hence shy away from being fearless and in the front because they are scared..thanks to their education and their ancestral inheritance of Laid Backness. (If there every is such a word!!!). Most, are busy serving other countries and minting money, basically concerning and limiting themselves to “Them” We cry, we shout, we protest when our so called our brothers “Indians” call us chowkidars, condemn and contempt our own people for displaying insecurity and lack of confidence but yes, one thing we will do or rather in snail steps is flow along wherever the wind takes us and follow the crowd and nominate “Gunda” for a leader because he is maybe ignorant or illiterate to be scared which sometimes itself is a blessing. Yes, we Nepalis scattered all over the world…..living outside our Native Land due to worldly needs need Gorkhaland but we need a better Leader…someone intelligent, sensitive and worldly.

The Sepoy for Ghorkhaland has proudly written about our identity. Please stay outside Darjeeling for atleast a week and call yourself Gorkha. As Mr. Ghising claims that he gave us an identity as Gorkhas so did Gandhiji who is the "Father of the Nation". How he fought for our country? Its commendable he also had strategies, but he never failed his people.....He achieved what he fought for..... a free India and he never wanted a post or a position. I appreciate your dedication towards your fellow comrade and I agree that he coined the term Gorkhaland which we all use, but U must also agree with me.. that he is the one who sold the issue (which was forever there since 1952, as Gorkhasthan) to the Bengal Govt. Subash Ghising is the man, the chosen one by destiny.There is nobody with his qualities who could hold the fort of Gorkhas for so long .Travel around the world and tell some one that you are a Gorkha from Darjeeling and they look at you with respect.The people how are still fighting the wars for their country and themselves later.
