During the 4th Tripartite Talk, GJMM has been immensely pressurized to focus only on the creation of Gorkhaland, besides, the conclusion of the Meeting seems to be only TALK on POLITICAL LEVEL in next round. Do you think 4th Tripartite Talk has been successful?

  • image Wish I was punk rocker... I'd make a song out of this article and spread this article like wildfire all over India adn the World.... The writer's grip on the whole issue makes him stand out like a Becon... Well done.. we are proud of both Prashant and after reading this article Upendra too

  • image DEAR MISTER UPEN ITS NICE TO KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING GOOD THINGS WHILE A LOT HAVE BEEN DOING BAD THINGS ITS GOOD TO SEE EDUCATED PEOPLE COME FOREWARD BUT ITS DIS HEARTENING TO SEE THAT WHEN THE WHOLE OF THE HILLS WAS AT ONE TIME UNITED TODAY IT HAS BEEN SO DIVIDED THAT NO BODY EVER GIVES A DAMN TO WHATEVER HAPPENS TO OTHER PEOPLE. ALL I WANTED TO SAY WAS THAT WE OUTSIDERS WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WETHER ANYONE OR ANY OF YOUR SO CALLED INTELLECTUALS HAS EVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GNLF SPONSERED BANDH IN THE HILLS THIS TYPE OF BANDHS SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS IF WE ARE TO AWAKE IN A COUNTRY OF NEW FREEDOMS NOONE REALLY BOTHERED BOUT ALL THOSE DAILY LABOURERS NOR DID THEY WORRY BOUT THE STUDENTS WHO ARE GETTING INTO THEIR EXAMS MODE AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR AS STUDENTS OF TODAY WILL GO ON TO BECOME THE FUTURE OF TOMORROW HOW COME TODAY WHEN THEY ARE BEING DEPRIVED OF THEIR RIGHTS , NOT EVEN ONE "IDOL,IDEAL OR THE IDIOT NOT EVEN ONE HAS RAISED HIS VOICE"

  • image Well said, Upendra. Prashant has definitely proved that we Nepalis/Gorkhalis are more than CHOWKIDAARS. I sincerely hope that Prashat does not become a political rallying point. And, let the idiots b idiots. Mr. Editor, Upen deserves a regular column in this website. We actually need a person like Upen who can write so sensibly & thoughtfully. Well done, Upen. Keep it up. Binod

  • image It fills me with pride when I see a fellow son of Darjeeling doing well in the national stage and yet I also feel sad that his very name is being used as a political rallying point in the quest for Gorkhaland. However, seeing what our politicians have behaved with a small sample known as DGHC, I shudder to think what they will do with a state called Gorkhaland. I am reminded of a joke about Laloo Prasad meeting the Japanese Prime Minister and being told that if Laloo were to give Bihar to the Japanese PM then in one year the Japanese PM would make Bihar like Japan. In reply Laloo told the Japanese PM that if he were to hand over Japan to Laloo for just one month then he (Laloo) would make Japan like Bihar!! Even the Nagas or Manipuris have their own state but look at their condition after over 40 years of statehood - beset with insurgency and rampant corruption. Matters are so bad that many Nagas and Manipuris see no future in their own state and have to go outside to find employment. Even after so many years of statehood there is not even one engineering or medical college in many of the North-East states. If that is what we are going to do head for then we must seriously think whether statehood is the answer or wise and honest management of whatever we have is present is better?

  • image I can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Finally I have come across a piece of 'literary nature' that has brilliantly summed up the total euphoria and the subsequent brouhaha regarding the crowning of Prashant as the Indian Idol, and the united front put forward by the Gorkhas/Nepalis in this matter. It feels great to see that there is at least one person whose senses is at the right place in these times of blame-games and antipathy. I am sure Upendra, ur article will inspire many people and make them work towards a better tomorrow for their community in particular, and humanity in general.

  • image u sure did make some sense here, upendra. undoubtedly, the glorifying moment (of prashant's victory) has left an indelible mark on my memory for decades to come. i had to pinch myself for the the umpteenth time until i belived wat i say.i m still savouring the cherished triumph of not just parshant but our entire gorkha fraternity. i hope the "idiots" have learnt their lesson once and for all. nepalis from all over the world has witnessed unity n brotherhood like never before..so wad if a group of so called existentialists cum and work their a** off to disrupt n distort our bonding? pride has its fall....the cracks are showing.....n gorkhaland seems like a dream, realized! cant wait to catch a train to GORKHALAND!!!

  • image BRAVO...excellent and sensible analogy of the whole saga. Politically people were divided even during the so called "GORKHALAND" movement. I have seen people raising arms not against the system but agaist their own brothers and sisters. Eventually one tamang proved superior than the other merely with his discent and a very pleasent character and with the heart full of love and honesty for his people and country. But remember my friend "the woods are lovely, dark and deep but miles to go before we sleep....before we sleep. AYO GORKHALI!!!!!!!!

  • image Upendra thanks for the article, Good job. Darjeeling people have talents but they never got a chance to prove that. They r always ignored by their own Government. This is the start and everything is possible if we move ahead with hand in hand. Hoping to see new Darjeeling in future.

  • image Upendra, U deserve STANDING OVATION! from the entire Nepali community… Thank You! soo much for the article. U made us realize the real constraint that we the people of Darjeeling do not know the art of questioning… meaning. "WE NEVER QUESTION".. Be that electricity, water, our degrading education system (government), and politicians gosh the list goes on and on and on.... We definitely need to change and the change is definite when we have people like you in our community… Bravo.. Keep writing…

  • image It was an indeed perfectly put up reflection of ourselves(Gorkhalis).Prashant has contributed a lot to bring us all together and evoked those sentiments which if carried on,can surely take us on long way ahead! No doubt!Darjeeling is full of talents in all spheres esp music so why not create more of surprises for the rest who must have thought we are almost dormant? Youth is the future of a Nation so if they can come ahead to break their hesitations, confront the world with more confidence, and fulfill their own dreams like our prashant did...then i think nothing can stop us from climbing up!!

  • image The author is totally correct with what he perceived from the latest happenings. But what impressed me the most was that never once did he try to single himself or his community out from the others. It's most annoying when you yourself tell somebody that you are different from them (because you are a Nepali?). At this moment we all need to learn and tell them that we are not different from the mainstream and that we are very much an integral part of this country. He also gets my appreciation for throwing some light on the past events but at the same time not blaming any particular group of people or a community. Hoping to read more at this site.

  • image uppu can you do a favour for us get this artical translated in nepali and send to some local news paper for people have the right to hear this.

  • image I completely agree with Upuda. Everyone has found a new sense of belonging and we as a community have found Unity among ourselves which leaders have tried to instill into fellow Gorkhas since time immemorial. Now we have to propel ourselves upward, try and scale new heights in all the fields and work for the welfare of our country and community as well, let the people realise that we owe more to our Motherland than the Fatherland!
(Posted by Bishal, October 7, 2007, 8:03 PM)
  • image Yup.. This is the right time to be get more united coz nothing seems impossible.. World has got a glimpse of us let show them our strength.. Lets be go ahead together and bring our selfs happiness, prosperity and peace... AAAAYOOO GORKHALLI !!!

  • image Indeed that quote from Rabindra Nath Tagore is a poignant reminder for an awakening still waiting to happen within the larger spectrum of the Indian society. I agree, idiots like Nitin and extreminists like amar bengali, will continue to do what idiots do best. For our part, we need to focus on the building blocks of our society. We need to continue in this path of solidarity, for in this unity lies our salvation. I enjoyed reading your perspectives and fully agree with your chain of thought.
