Res/VC sir, I was very delighted while I saw the advertisement inviting applications for different posts for various departments. Accordingly I applied for the post of Asstt. Prof. in the deptt. of Social Systems and Anthropology.In the Advt it was mentioned that applications were invited for different faculty members for nine departments.But, when I made contact with the SU, I was told that the deptt of the same was full and no applications will be entertained. I was very disheartened. I though that i missed a chance. I will be glad if I will be informed in future for the same. I will be eagerly waiting for the same.I am in this discipline's research for lat 20 yrs. I have got 2 editedvols and about 30 papers published.Hope I will be considered for the same in future.All the best to SU. Rgds, Dr.Debashis Basu

Sir, I have cleared my ICSE Examinations in this year from Rajkot, Gujarat and am mplanning to take up biology for my STD. XI & XII. But with that I am also planning to do some researches in field of Science(P,C,B) & in medical and technical field which can be beneficial for mankind. Dear Prof. Lama, First of all I'll like to congratulate you for your achivement. I hope this university will fulfill the thrust of many researcher that have not yet explore in Sikkim and its adjoing area. In the beginning I would like to introduce myself. I am inhabitant of Darjeeling and studied in Darjeeling Govt. College with BOTANY with specialization in MYCOLOGY and PLANT PATHOLOGY. I have started my research work at darjeeling govt. college. I have completed my PhD thesis from University of North Bengal, India. My thesis entitled “Studies on Cymbidium rot and its management by biocontrol agents”. During five years of research experience, I have become well versed with general techniques in Microbiology, Mycology and Plant Pathology, Spectroscopic analyses, Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (PAGE), Fermentation techniques etc. I have developed well experience in isolation of pathogens, its management by biocontrol agents and the mechanism of action of antagonism. Beside my thesis work I have also gained experiences in other fields like 1.Status of nitric oxide during host-pathogen interaction. 2.Studies on the antioxidant properties of edible mushrooms. 3. User friendly computational approaches for identification of fungal families 4. Knowledge of using bioinformatics tools I have already published and communicated my findings to different journals of national and international repute. I am sure in nere futute there will be department of Botany or Plant Pathology in your University. If there will be any openings related to my work I hope, you will find my scientific expertise useful for your institution. Since my goal is to secure a challenging career in plant pathological research, I am sure that your laboratory has lot to offer to fulfill my scientific quest.

Dear Vice Chancellor Sir, I was aware about the establishment of the Central University Sikkim. From the web just now I saw that you have already been in chair in the Central University, Sikkim since last one year. I have a long desire to work on coloured snow phenomenon in the Himalayas, as this aspect of sicnce has not been investigated in India so far. Snow balls in snow clad mountains is because of some specific micro-algae those sprout during melting of snow, and are valuable organisms to be researched for development of Biotechnological products, also to understand the basics as these exclusively occur in glaciers, Arctica and Antarctics.We have the mighty Himalayas ion our country but no work on this yet. Even we do not know the cold tolernat planktons in several lakes and water bodies of Himalayas though these are the major primary producers in the unspoilt waters.. It is difficult to work on this aspect while at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar (my present place of work) as it is far away from Himalayas, and it is difficult for the stduents here to work on the hilly terrain especially in cold regimes. I am now 54 years old, and hence wish to work on this field soon (the first on this aspect in India) in the next few years while I am in the University with a lab if get an opportunity, say through any collaboration with your University faculty or as visiting Professor or collaborative project or through any other mutually agreed process so that this unresolved/unknown field in India will come to light, and would be a great contribution for Himalayan region in India. My other fields of interest are: Biofertilizers, bioactive compounds from algae and other microrganisms, studying biofilms on culturally important heritage sites and monuments and developing methds for restoration. On this I already have one collabotion with University of Rome through DST, Govt. of India. Very little is known on these aspects too in mountain regions of our country. As recent as 2006 there were questions about recognition of the university by UGC. Having got that now to have our own VC what a wonderful news. I congratulate Dr Lama on his appointment and hope the local knowledge he has will be extra beneficial to all those who are related to this insititution.
