The Communist Hegemony – Eastern Europe Revisited
Mao Tse Tung once said, “…Communism is not love. Communism is a hammer which we use to crush the enemy”… seems like… the communists in West Bengal follow only this doctrine of communism. It happened in Eastern Europe; it happened in Nandigram; now it’s happening in North-Bengal. The communists in West Bengal have taken over from where their communist Russian masters had left during the cold war era. The patterns are the same and so is the lack of humanity and benevolence on part of the communists that marked the communist rule from 1950’s till the fall of communism in 1989.
Numerous nations, nationalities and people across Eastern Europe had been subjected to ruthless persecution and intimidation by the communist Russia, same tactics are being used by the CPI (M) led West Bengal government in the foothills of Darjeeling and areas in and around Doors (Duars). The communists in Russia did not allow freedom and independence to people who were non-Russians; they refused to acknowledge the rights and liberties of other nationalities. The communists in West Bengal have taken the same attitude towards people who have had the guts to defy them and stand against them.
People in Nandigram refused to bow down to the might of CPI (M), their defiance was crushed brutally and thousands of people were killed, raped and brutalized by the communist machinery. The state police part of the communist Gestapo watched with relish the murder of thousands of helpless farmers, very much like when every state organ was controlled by the communists in Russia.
Hundreds of thousands of people who are against communist rule in West Bengal, and want a separate identity of their own, a separate economic system, a freer and democratic form of governance are being targeted by the communists in the North-Bengal region. Yesterday the CPI (M) frontier organizations such as Bangla O Bangla Bhasha Bacchao Samity, Aamra Baangali, Janchetna Morch, Janjagaran Morcha fully supported by state machinery brutalized the town of Siliguri. They invaded neighborhoods where minority people live; they specifically targeted the Gorkhalis, who have always defied the communists and their party machinery. This is very similar to how the minorities in the then USSR were treated, with threat and violence.
CPI (M) claims that Janchetna and Janjagaran morcha are apolitical bodies; I wonder what promotes these apolitical bodies to get involved in political issues that too armed to the teeth? The West Bengal police incompetent as ever continued to look the other way when minority Gorkhalis were been harassed and beaten up by the rowdy communist mobs across Siliguri. In Doors, school children and women of Gorkha ethnicity were targeted and brutally beaten up right in front of the police, but un-surprisingly enough the police didn’t do anything. As can be seen in the picture here, the West Bengal police is giving out the VICTORY SIGN, after the mob finished terrorizing kids and women in Siliguri.
B. Rai a resident of Jorebungla, Darjeeling who escaped with his vehicle heavily damaged told me over the phone that the mob had specifically sought out Gorkhali drivers and beaten them up and damaged their vehicles while allowing other vehicles to pass. College and university students studying in and around Siliguri were threatened and some even beat up in Shibmandir area. Same is the story from Bagdogra, Malbazar, Oodlabaari, Kalchini, Hamiltongung and many other places.
CPI (M) knows how the game is played, and in fact to them goes the credit of perfecting the art of violence against the minorities. This time around, they beat up the people who were peacefully protesting against government decision not to allow the voice of dissent to be heard in Naxalbari by staging hunger strike, which ironically was the breeding ground of independent India’s first peoples revolution (Naxali movement), the failure of which allowed CPI(M) to come in power.
Once the innocent protestors were beaten up, the state machinery got to work, with the Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister speaking against the innocent hunger strikers. In Oodlabari, the attack on the tourist vehicle which was carrying tourists from Kolkata was a premeditated attack orchestrated by the CPI (M) to rouse people’s sentiment. The local police had not even started investigating the incidence, local news paper, controlled by CPI (M) were ripe with stories of how Bengali tourists were targeted and harassed by GJM supporters. How did the media come to know it was the GJM activists who harassed the tourists? Who in today’s world would be stupid enough to harass people while flying their party flag high? It was a well planned attack as orchestrated by CPI (M) and it had desired effect on the people. The media completely controlled and spoon fed by CPI (M) continued to mention that it was a clash between GJM and LOCAL PEOPLE; tell me something, why are local people always clashing with GJM? The media tried to hide the fact that CPI (M) was sponsoring planned violence against the minority people. With all this CPI(M) had finally succeeded in dividing people along racial lines and taking peoples attention away from the main issue of separation from West Bengal. However, thank god for small mercies, national and international medias got interested and the real story is out… “CPI (M) INCITES ETHNIC VIOLENCE AGAINST GORKHALIS”
By targeting the minorities and threatening them, CPI (M) believes that the voice of dissent will be subdued, what they fail to see is that the voice of dissent will grow louder and stronger with every atrocity meted out on the minorities. The voice of dissent will give rise to millions of echo with every act of suppression. The voice of dissent will be ever so sincere and defiant with every act of treachery. The proof lies in the fact that till yesterday very few people were aware of Gorkhaland, but today Gorkhaland as an issue is recognized and known about not only in India but world over. As the communist Russia crumbled to pieces in 1989, so shall communist West Bengal, for your hegemony will always be resisted by free spirits like us.
I humbly request our people to maintain peace and not give in to the temptation of violence. The world is watching and our actions will define who we are. With non-violence and peaceful means we shall achieve Gorkhaland and no force on earth will be able to stop us.
Finally! I leave you with immortal lines as stated by Woodrow Wilson “Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance.”
Hope! I made some sense
