Poll: 4th Tripartite Meeting
During the 4th Tripartite Talk, GJMM has been immensely pressurized to focus only on the creation of Gorkhaland, besides, the conclusion of the Meeting seems to be only TALK on POLITICAL LEVEL in next round. Do you think 4th Tripartite Talk has been successful?

Do We Really Want Gorkhaland?

By Upendra on August 17,2008

Do We Really Want Gorkhaland?

Mairead Maguire once said, “We frail humans are at one time capable of the greatest good and, at the same time, capable of the greatest evil…” I feel ashamed to say that my community is slowly transforming into the “greatest evil”, devoid of any feelings, humanity, compassion and forgiveness.

I feel ashamed today that my people have become emotionless, machine like. There is no sympathy to be seen anywhere, people are becoming brutal by the day and it makes me wonder do we really want Gorkhaland at the cost losing our soul to the devil? Do we really want Gorkhaland at the cost our people being devoid of any emotion or human values? Do we really want Gorkhaland if our people loose what makes us stand out amongst the billions – our compassion? Do we really want Gorkhaland at the cost of becoming heartless zombies?

A name that is not tolerated today in the hills at all is that of Mr. Subash Ghishing, and he deserves to be hated. But what is the fault of Mrs. Dhan Maya (Dhan Kumari) Ghishing? Why was her dead body not allowed to enter the hills? Who are those heartless people who could not even accord her the privilege of a decent cremation/burial in her own motherland? The same motherland for which every Gorkhali is currently fighting for and has been fighting for the past 107 years. Why is GJMM being so paranoid, what threat does a dead body pose to Gorkhaland?

What is the use of having our own land, if our own people have to take permission from a political party just to provide a decent funeral to the departed? People world over desire to breathe their last in their own land; Mrs. Ghishing could not afford the luxury of this simple privilege, yet she has the right to 6 feet of her own land. This is an inalienable right and it would be very unfortunate if GJMM leaders do not show compassion at this moment. History is watching and it is watching our actions closely, please do not allow your egos and emotions to overtake your humanity. Even countries that are at war allow the enemy to collect the body of their fallen soldiers or provide a decent burial, not because it stops war, but because it is the right thing to do, it is the honorable thing to do.  By preventing Mrs. Ghishings body to be cremated/buried in Darjeeling GJMM is slurring the honor of Gokhali’s world over.

I don’t know about others, but I have this feeling that the cost of Gorkhaland should never exceed basic decency and human values. GJMM should not forget that we are fighting for a land to call our own and what use will be such a land if our own people are banished and driven out and not allowed to come back to that very same land even after they are dead? If the people of Darjeeling can unite against Mr. Ghishing today, they can unite against GJMM tomorrow. I wonder if the same treatment is meted out against the present day GJMM leaders tomorrow, how will they react? As the popular saying goes “Daiba ko Latthi Sabai Maathi”.

Let us not forget that Gorkhaland is a very pious and religious goal for all Gorkhalis, please do not make a mockery of our emotions. We want Gorkhaland but we do not want a dead body being stopped from entering Gorkhaland. We do not want political parties making a mockery of the departed should. We do not want our people to become heartless, feelingless and emotionless. We have lived through such an era for past 20 years, what is the use of demanding Gorkhaland if we have to live through the same suffering all over again for another 20 more years?

I hope, GJM leaders have not lost their honor and decency and I appeal to them to show compassion if not towards Mr. Ghishing then at least towards Late Mrs. Dhanmaya.

Finally, I leave you with immortal lines from the poem “Utsarg Gara”…. “Dekhos Na Dekhos Yo Bartamaan… Bhawi Pidi Ley Dekhney Chha… Kasailey Chadma Bhesh Ma Timro Itihaas Lekhdai Chha…”.

Hope! I made some sense.

  • image dear all, demanding a seperate state is legal and within the constitutional framework so we the(GORKHAS) are not violating anyconstitutional norms on the otherhand, we respect the integrity and solidarity of the Indian Union. We strongly believe that decentralisation is a very affective, and caters to to the people in acomprehensive manner. It is the best method of administration, it brings development, which is hardly prevalent in Darjeeling.Owing to these factors the people of Darjeeling are unhappy and have taken steps to express unhappiness. Our leader Mr.GURUNG may not be very well educated, but he has united all of us(which was not done by previous leaders)the method of nonviolence and satyagraha adopted which is indeed praise worthy, afterall, no one wants and is intrested in violence.Evevthough I am away from my place and people, I support my people and my leaders strongly.Iam working in South India and Iam tired of saying that we are Indian and not subject of Nepal.(though the people here are good and understanding)The demand of Gorkha land is a must as it shows our identity, which many people may not understand till they feel the pain. I wish all of you a happy future

  • image I have whatsoever no hope of Gorkhaland being a safe haven for the nepali community. It can be rechristened to Bhoteyland or Gundaland. After 20 years of strife for our motherland I have realized that the old nepali saying is so much true "jun jogi aaye pani kaan chiriyeko", coz its the same story of nepali junta being led astray like a herd of dumb idiotic sheep by a small pack of greedy wolves. Hope God will give us justice and exterminate our community once and for all.

  • image Khamri brothers ,ne máyel lyáng,,,,,,,,,,mútuncí róngkup rumkup,,,,,róngkup...........................Darjeeling is our motherland. The land of the lepchas. The Gorkha(nepali) people are trying to capture this also. Let us all unite and demand for Lepchaland (rongkup) our gods land. our hidden paradise. We want Lepchaland. Darjeeling is for lepcha people and not some Gorkhays. Lets Unite all Lepchas and Bhutias as we are brothers from history with treaty signed. We should fight for Lepchaland our rongkup our ne mayel lyang. LEPCHALAND ....Darjeeling is of and for son of the gods . We Lepcha should make our voice heard in India. Lets Unite. Lets Make the language of Darjeeling Lepcha language again. om mane peme hung.

  • image Yes I agree with lepcha bro. Khamri bro. Darjeeling is not a Gorkhaland or Gorkhay ko land. Darjeeling is the land of the Lepcha people. So, it should be called Lepchaland and not gorkhaland. History is the proof that the Gorkhas came from Nepal and were not originally of Darjeeling and the language of Darjeeling was Lepcha language. So , Darjeeling is land of the Lepchas and Bhutia brothers. All Lepchas and Bhutias must unite now to throw the gorkhays back to Nepal or where ever in India. But Darjeeling is for Lepcha. We Want Lepchaland. Om mane peme hung.

  • image Why do you People become so fools.Darjeeling is the land of Lepchas. Then the bhutias came.In the end the Nepalis came in the name of Gurkhas and now they want it to be called gorkhaland. This is not fair. Let it be called Lepcha land. Cause truely this is not a gorkhaland but the land of the lepchas. You gorkhays(nepalis) are just trying to capture our land. You have indirectly captured our Sikkim now you want to capture Darjeeling too. All gorkhays go to Nepal. Darjeeling is for Lepcha and bhutias. Khamri.....

  • image Ofcourse we do want Gorkhaland and there is simply no alternative.Presently we are a part of such a state where there is hardly any economic development.Even the people are brainwashed by the politicians. You look around yourself if you are craving for examples and the examples you will find them in plenty.A century of economic experiments have shown that free market is the economic concept which sets the pace for the modern economic system. And yet we see people all around us here in Bengal. Some claim themselves to be a die hard communist but do they actually know what form of economic system do the communists preach?Do they have proper knowhow of the various policies of their beloved government? The answer is a plain NO!!!!There is ignorance all around.People do not know. They are simply charmed by the leaders. In short, what i want to say is set limitations when you are following a leader.Do not pamper him to GOD-LEVEL.Suggest him/her if you find him wrong. That is exactly what we mean by democracy in a layman's language.Do not allow any leader to assume an authority as of a dictator.Think with your mind and not with your heart. The economic inefficiency of the present state government should be enough to motivate us to stiffen our stand for Gorkhaland. We obviously need Gorkhaland and no leader should get even to close to getting autonomous power.
