Poll: 4th Tripartite Meeting
During the 4th Tripartite Talk, GJMM has been immensely pressurized to focus only on the creation of Gorkhaland, besides, the conclusion of the Meeting seems to be only TALK on POLITICAL LEVEL in next round. Do you think 4th Tripartite Talk has been successful?

Darjeeling hills bandh

By DT Correspondent on March 16,2007

Darjeeling: Normal life was paralysed in all the three hill sub-divisions during the 12 hours Bengal Bandh. The bandh, however, passed off peacefully in Darjeeling, Kurseong and Kalimpong.

All the major political parties here, except for the GNLF, have come together to call a 12 hours bandh in the three hill subdivisions to protest against the killings of more than 20 innocent farmers in Nandigram, east Midnapore.

All the private offices remained closed, vehicles were also off the roads. The bandh, however did not affect medical services in the hills, Tea gardens were also not affected.

The impact of the bandh, however, in Kalimpong was normal, where all institutions and markets remained open. Although the shopkeepers opened their shops in the morning, they downed shutters later following a request by PDF supporters.
