Darjeeling: {Listen Apology from RadioOne 94.3 FM (Click to listen)} Finally the efforts and voices of united Gorkha community have been successfully executed. Radio One FM 94.3 has furnished a written apology within the stipulated period as requisitioned in the said notice for the incorrect translation of the word ‘Night Watchman’ with a further assurance “to take utmost care in future and not to repeat such errors” on their radio stations.

Such apology was also broadcast over their FM Radio 94.3, on Friday, May 25, 2007 and a CD containing the recorded clips of apology has been tendered to Mr. Anand Bhandari, Advocate, Kolkota High Court, with the “Letter of Apology”.

Mr. Anand Bhandari, Advocate, Kolkota High Court, issued legal notice to Radio One FM 94.3 on behalf of Kolkata Gorkha Dukkha Niwarak Sammelan, on 15 May 2007, for their dire mistake of programme broadcast under the heading “Learn New Words with Kapil Dictionary”, the word ‘night watchman’ in the said programme was purportedly translated as; night means ‘raat’ and watchman means ‘Gorkha’.

  • image It was yet an inevitable process that was bound to happen with the scale of reaction from people of our community! i guess it was like an outburst we all had been piling for years through generations..... undermiing our Heroic self sacrificing generations to our country named India.... i love my India! Bharat hamari maata hai aur iski raksha karna hamara darm hai! par kya kuchh bharatiyon ne yeh kabhi sooncha hai - jiss jaati ko ham bahadur ka darza de chukein hain unka bhi bahut bara atma samman hai'' woh kisi ki bheekh ke hakdaar nahin hai. unhein bass kewal chahiye to aatma samman! aur aatma samman unke baha rahe khoon aur dard ka jo pidhion se maa ka aanchal doondh rahein hai aur pukaar rahein hai, maa hamein anaath maat kar! hamein apne jigar mein sameit le, mere baloon ko sehla aur meri aankhon mei dekh aur mejhe pyar kar!!!! yeh mera janam sidh adhikar hai! aur agar jiss kissi maa, baap, bhai, behen ke dil ko yeh baat chu rahi hai toh hamein seene se laga lo aur hamara aatma samman karo. jai Hind i thank all the people who sought to a legal process for the sad incident and having taught a lesson to some tom-dick-n-hary!!

  • image This news confused me. I did not know similar incident had happened with another radio station 3 months ago. I thought this is the latest remark made by an RJ in RED FM Delhi regarding Gorkhas/Nepalis and Prashant Tamang.

  • image I liked this news. Of course all the nepalese living anywhere in India and Nepal must unite together to retalliate this thing. We must send a strong message that nepalese are not always the watchman of indians but Nepalese mother have given birth to many shining star like Prashant too... Well done guys Puspa

  • image First of all my deep gratitude to KGDNS and Mr. Bhandari without whom this apology stuff would not have come about. The bottom line is we are still treated like shit by our fellow communities in our own country. I had been watching silently(www.darjeelingnews.net) all the protests raised over the issue and the mass petition being signed internationally and all the hue and cry and the written protests to all the relevant authorities concerned. My brothers toiled hard but we were not cared, listened or bothered. Then step in KGDNS and Mr. Bhandari(I wish he is a Gorkha as the title suggests). I went through the legal notice, oh! God! what a slap(please go through the legal notice, it's worth reading). My belief over the judiciary of my country was reaffirmed. Radio One apologised because they knew this time they are cornered, either apologise or face criminal defamation. Period...... But after the apology all of us slept blissfully. There were a very few words of appreciation and gratiture by a very few Gorkha souls. This I felt pathetic. The reason why we Gorkhas are looked down upon. We loathe to acknowledge the good deeds of our fellow brothers. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME. Siddhatth.

  • image Namaste to all. I am a newbie to this site but i think that its awesome. I just cannot hold back and be a watcher anymore while the Indian film industry seems to degrade our society at every chance they get. I would like to remind them that whatever their preconceptions about us, we still remain the most feared and fearless soldiers in the world with unbouted loyalty. It should not have to be reminded that we are of a warrior race- what you would normally call the 'Rajpoots'. We are praised throughout the world and even the japanese bow bown before our bravery with their samurai traditions. The stereotypical 'Gorkha' image of the 'Paley Dai' portraied in those extremely unreal and pathetic films are outdated, oldfashioned and 'politically incorrect'. For the people who still remain adamant and insist that those stereotypes are to be accepted remember this- we are the most ruthlessly efficient soldiers, undoubted in our loyalty and most important of all humans. So please do not try to label us because we would not stereotype the 'hindustani' population as all being accustomed to using fair and lovely to gain a fair skin like our western counterparts, which infact is pathetic. Jai Gorkha.

  • image i am happy that these people were made to apologise.....yeh even these hindi movies disrespect our community ....they misuse the name gorkhs. have you all watched "APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY" god !!! those people acting gorkhas..do u think we people speak hindi in such a tone.....dont know why we are always made as watchman as if these biharis, south indians dont work as chowkidars.....really it hurts but i am no better when anyone tells anything to our community or relating to gorkhas i tell them read history and then speak and you will know who GORKHAS are.I think we need to put across this to the people making hindi movies.........i salute to kgdns

  • image It is good to see so many people fired up and suggesting to take up the issue legally. I cannot but thank KGDNS for standing up on behalf of all of us yielding a right result. Taking it legally costs money who is going to do that. Here in my opinion DGHC should have stepped in showing duty of care to its people. Iam not saying they are not doing anything. They have been doing quite a few things but they could do better or even worse. On a wider note Nepal Government should have raised this issue with the Indian Govt. Because I very clearly remember the Indian Govt threatening the Fijian in 1980 with sending Aircraft Carrier because the democratidally elected Prime Minsiter of Indian origin in Fiji had been toppled in a military Coup. This is what I call duty of care

  • image Well go ahead and sue them brave Gorkhali. Please show the entire community that you stand by your nickname. The doors are not closed. Kolkata GDNS demanded an unconditional written apology and broadcast of such apology over the same FM network from where such derogatory remark was made and they hastily complied. Now the door for any further legal action is closed for GDNS but not for others. You have a fresh cause of action. Not only you, each and every Gorkha besides Kolkata GDNS and their members have their fresh cause of action to take sterner action. The issue is very much alive. Please go ahead and turn your words into action.
