12:01 A.M Darjeeling: The nerve was held tightly. Tension was visible on each and every face as their eyes were glued to the television set waiting for the results of the Indian Idol finals. The Hills underwent “intensive care unit” like situation, but only to erupt a few seconds later, when John Abraham, raised Prashant’s hand to indicate that he had become the next Indian Idol. As soon as the result was announced, the first thing he did was hug his competitor Amit Paul, which shows the strength of his humble character.
His sister placed the traditional Dhaka Topi (the pride of Nepalese world over) on his proud head, and his mother offered him the Khadah. The hero of millions of heart, Prashant Tamang, with Nepali topi beaming high on his head, was emotional as he was declared the Indian Idol. The people, who had been anxious since voting started a week ago, took to the streets shouting slogans and praising Prashant for his splendid success.
People irrespective of their party affiliations joined hands to celebrate the success of their hero. Reports have poured in from all over the world, regarding celebrations after the breath taking grand finale. Special mention must be made of All-Gorkha Regiments,Kolkata Police, Sikkim and Nepal where celebrations are reportedly even louder and larger than in Darjeeling.
Highly placed sources in the media circle (read Mumbai based), have said that the winning margin was as high as... hold your breath..... THREE CRORE (30 million) votes.
Prashant’s winning the title is symbolic in many ways. Foremost, it has given recognition to millions of Nepalese all over the world. Especially those who have been living in India, for more than ten generations, but who have always been taken as outsiders by the mainland Indians, now feel that their sacrifice for the nation has not been futile and there is a sense of vindication among the Indian Nepalese.

Second most important thing is that, it has brought unprecedented Camaraderie amongst the Nepalese world over.
Thirdly, it will go a long way in changing the image of the police force, from just a law and order body to a body consisting of individuals who may be as talented as the best talent in the country.
This correspondent along with the DT team once again congratulates Prashant and those who have voted for him tirelessly.
Viva la Prashant... Viva la Nepalese world over.....
