Kurseong November 7: People hit the streets with traditional songs and dance while seven trucks showcasing the models displaying different incidents that had occurred ever since the demand of Gorkhaland renewed in the hills since October last year as the month long cultural movement of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha pulled the curtains down all over the hills today.

The Cultural movement had started from October 7 which was being held at the West Bengal National Voluntary Force (WBNVF) ground here. Leading from the front Pradeep Pradhan the Vice President of the Morcha first left balloons in which a demand for Gorkhaland reading “we want Gorkhaland” at Kurseong motor stand after which followed the Gandhi song “Raghu Pati Raghava Raja Ram” in Violin played by a local artist.

Following this the seven trucks entered Kurseong town which carried models displaying different incidents of the present Gorkhaland agitation. “We want to show to the people including the minority communities that these incidents which have occurred in the past one year during the Gorkhaland agitation has made the people more strong to achieve their goal,” said Subash Pradhan the Press and Publicity secretary of the youth wing of the Morcha in Kurseong.

nov7kurseong1Interesting an old man resembling the face of Subash Ghisingh modeled for Subash Ghisingh waving hands to the public and that was the centre of attraction all during the rally. However Ghisingh’s Model showed placard at the back reading that he was an anti Gorkhaland person which had ruined the hills in the past 20 years. “We want to let people know that Subash Ghisingh was a betrayer,” said Pradhan.

The other trucks displayed incident that happened in front of Deepak Gurung’s (GNLF Darjeeling Branch Committee President) in which Morcha activist Pramilla Sharma was shot dead, the incident which occurred in Siliguri in which ex serviceman was beaten up, the kargil war where the Gorkha soldiers were fighting, the incident that lead to the closure of chungthung tea estate in Bijanbari and Morcha activist in front of Writers building demanding Gorkhaland.

Once the trucks left for Darjeeling to join a bigger rally there, the Morcha supporters dressed in their Traditional attire rose up to celebrations dancing and singing traditional songs all over the town before the rally came to an end at Kurseong Motor stand after marching all through the Hill Cart road and Burdhwan road. The Rally was also joined by the Minorities. More than 5000 people participated in the rally.

  • image Zef, I am sorry to hear how your family was treated. Nobody should be harassed on the basis of ethnicity and religion. Who knows better than us how we are treated outside Darjeeling in India. We have lived in harmony for decades with people from different ethnic and religious background. We, the people of Darjeling should condemn such act. Zef, you know there are people like your tenants who are waiting for the right time to take advantage of the situation, I have only one word for these kind of people "Maha Ghatiya" . I totally sympathise with you and you family.

Quite suspicious. Heard that Pradeep and Amar went to Bengal house in Delhi before the cultural movment.... Can someone explain why?

  • image Dear Rahul Bhai, I am hippy minded and I am not shame of my community because I was born in Singamari, I was raised there and most probably I'll die there.....Oo Bro you need sympathy rite! for the Gorkhaland moment..... I need peace to live not a Taliban Gorkhaland....For your kind information, I did not write anything against Gorkhaland. I was trying to convience GJMM leaders for the ill effects of banning non-traditional dresses in college (think biologically specially for womens). This is what happens when you force someone against there will........ Suggestion: Its good that you have the full support for GJMM but (think logically) goru jastai bhayera aankha bandh gare ra kasto Darjeeling banau chau...aru le haak bhanda haakne na haak bhande na haakne.......... I am positive that one day we are gonna get our land but it is also our dream and duty to make it developed and peaceful to live for our coming generation.

  • image It gradually coming towards a great failure. I dont know about what other thinks or reacts but that is what has been my experience. The cultural display, as a multiculture and secular place has suddenly started differentiating people. My family has been living in darjeeling since 1937. We had a good relation with neighbour and other people around us. Their had never been necessary for us to identify to them in respect of our religion as we look and speak the same. Now when people had new what we are, things has change gradually. Our shop tenanet has stop paying us the rent regularly. They have even abuse my wife for no reason. There are many difficulties that is coming in front of us. We dont know how to go about this. Police they are not ready to coperate with us. This what is going with us but there are many cases that you will hear and will get to know about. I am here earning day and night having a dream to buy a property so that I can return home. But this cases has realised us to think can we actually do so. Do our family and dreams are safe back home. Do we minorites "now we are" has somone to listen to us. Please dont do this to us. Help us ? Help my family ?

  • image Ankit Gurung dai, pokhinui ramro haina jindagi bar gas stove mati basnu vanda. Tapai haru tha Darjeelingma dukkai ley vhasnu hun tsa. Hami yaha Delhima yo madhesey haro bata vanai khanu par tsa. There are many friends in my college who didn't even knew that Nepali-speaking people would be an Indian. "Darjeeling kya Nepalmey hey", vanthiyo. Chowkidar< Bahadur > vanney ra kura sunnu par tsa. Our identity is at stake. Taray ahiley they know where Darjeeling is: they know about the Gorkhaland Movement and they symphatize with us. Thanks to GJM and its movement. People like you should stop howling at our own people. Symphatizing with an egoistic, uncharasmatic, unpopular "leader" like Madan Chor, speaks volumns about your loyalty towards the Gorkhaland cause. STOP DISAPPROVING WITH GJM, THEY HAVE THE FULL SUPPORT OF COMMON PEOPLE LIKE US. U HIPPY-MINDED ARE A SHAME ON OUR COMMUNITY. U DEFINATELY NEED A REALITY-CHECK. MANIPUR, NAGALAND, MIZORAM WERE NOT FOUNDED IN A DAY. THEY HAD TO LEAD A BLOODY BATTLE WITH ASSAM. JUST THINK: u SHOULD HAVE BEEN PROBABLY MOURNING YOUR RELATIVES DEAD RIGHT NOW INSTEAD OF POSTING PROVOCATING REMARKS ON NET HAD THE GJM TOILED THEIR WAY. THINK COOOLLLY!!!

  • image April 2009: I am really frustrated because I wanted to be a part of our Gorkhaland moment. I called my friends everyday because I was eager to know about the current and latest news. I don't know about others but GJMM had my full support.....................October 2008: I am upset about the dress code. However, I still have a faith that we are gonna make beautiful and democratic Gorkhaland...................November 2008: Lau lau its too much....Some of my friends were stopped from going to college because they were wearing kurta and appropriate dresses. Sala chor haru who gave you the permission to stop students going from colleges.....Still, I appeal to leaders of GJMM, please don't stop those students who at least wear appropriate and socially acceptable clothes...............Suggestion: Dherai umloi bhane pokhincha.....Its time to speak up!
