July 7 the agitation begins

Darjeeling, 5 July: As the people of Darjeeling hills waits anxiously to know the future of Darjeeling hills after July 7, today’s meeting of Central Committee, GJMM has revealed its strategies after their meeting held at Darjeeling as follows and will be maintained strictly in Darjeeling hills after July 7:   

  • Indefinite general strike from July 7 has been withheld till August 7.
  • GL number on vehicles has been mandatory only for Central Committee members of GJMM, not for general people after July 7.  Government vehicles will be forced to use the numbers in second phase of program scheduled. The private and public vehicles approach in the last.
  • Central and State government offices will remain closed for indefinite period from 7 July onwards.
  • Banks /Post Office/ Food and Supply offices will be given relaxation on Monday and Friday.
  • Departments of Municipality: Conservancy and Water Works will work as usual.
  • All the Power companies like NHPC, NIPPON, NTPC etc. operating in Darjeeling hills will remain shut-down for indefinite period after July 7.
  • Timbers from the Darjeeling hills will not be allowed to descend to plains.
  • Different religious group of Darjeeling hills will have prayer-meet at different places of Darjeeling hills after July 7.

  • image It now makes sense to have BG of the GJMM faction to NOW send another team to Kolkata ………AS WELL!!!!!!!..............as part of a “La-La-Mo-Mo” team……….. For, according to reports in the press: “the WB chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s reply” to BG had also implicitly said ……………..”it would be “fruitful (HOW SO DELICIOUSLY FRUITFUL???…….. Sic*) if a meeting at the bipartite level” preceded the talks in Delhi”……(On one hand………….. it would be good to have the WB Govt’s…….so called………. “SUPPORT” on the Gorkha side for that is most necessary to sway the Centre --- no matter who comes to power at the Centre --- ………..but then again………….. the distrust runs deep…… so NOW, IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE WB GOVT WOULD GO ABOUT TRYING TO ………..”derail”……. the GORKHALAND DEMAND and THE BG DELEGATION AGAIN…………..AS THEY DID THE SG DELEGATION 21 YEARS AGO,……… WHICH BG WAS A PART OF…………..for it is said that “history repeats itself” or rather “goes around in a concentric spiral”…..which could be upward or downward)…………. As, on the 13th of July 2008, A BG team left for Delhi on what party insiders described as a “confidential visit”………….. The five-member team, led by Amar Lama, a central committee member of the Morcha, reached Delhi 14th evening. The team, according to a “Telegraph” report, is expected to prepare ground work on two fronts……………. “At a time when the equations are changing at the Centre and relations are developed with a new set of people who matter most, it does make sense to send a team…………….. The team may not get enough time in this hectic situation to interact with all those it intend, but there is no harm in giving it a shot,” a party source is quoted as saying…………The report further added that: This also explains why the party is not too keen in publicizing the visit before something concrete emerges……………….. The decision to visit Delhi at this juncture is also important as Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has already written (ANYONE SURE ABOUT THIS???? OR THIS A STONEWALLING TECHNIQUE TO LET THIS AUGUST PARLIAMENTARY SESSION ALSO PASS------ Sic*) to the Centre for a tripartite meeting………… During its stay in Delhi the delegation would also prepare its groundwork for a seminar that the party would host here on July 21, the source reportedly said…………….The seminar, according to the report, is about the demand of Gorkhaland but the party is keen to get like-minded speakers from Delhi for it. “If non-Nepali speakers……… (MOST IMPORTANT and an absolute MUST) ……….. can be invited, it will be all the more better……. Moreover it will also be interesting to get Nepali-speaking people from other parts of the country for the meet. The team in Delhi will also be working on this front,” the source reportedly added…………(THIS IS WHERE THE BG faction ……. as they are all relatively new to the “connection factors”……….. should now consider the possibility of handing out the “Olive Branch” to the more well connected (and better fed……Sic*) SG faction………”BG’s currently erstwhile enemies” …………. Take the example of Jharkhand and Uttarakhand who were “totally united” and pulled “all the right strings” to get their STATEHOOD while GORKHALAND looked on “hooked” on the 6th SCHEDULE………Sic*).

  • image This is for the first time after mahatma Gandhi that a non violent and peaceful movement is led by Mr Bimal Gurung in India.This is the reason why people here in NEW YORK too are sympathetic towards Mr.Gurung's way of handling the Gorkahaland issue.It is further noted that he is getting support from all communities of Darjeeling hills. His nonviolent methods may take a little more time but ultimately nonviolece will be the winner.If not in 2010 I have an inherent feeling that Gorkhaland will be a reality in the near future if Mr.Bimal Gurung is there.If nonviolent means could kick away the Britishers from India why not WB from Darjeeling hills.I have written only Darjeeling hills becoz. this is where the present agitation is at its peak.I wish Mr Bimal Gurung all success and may god and spirit of mahatma be with him to realise Gorkhaland.Jai Gorkhaland.

Mr AK Deb of the WB Govt ……in the not too recent past………. said the situation in Darjeeling was "dynamic" in nature and was, “changing with every passing moment” (perfectly correct)…………….. Referring to the further relaxation of the Darjeeling shutdown by the agitating Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha till 5th July 08 and now till the 7th of August due to its scheduled talks with the state government in Kolkata on 27 June and the understandings arrived at, Mr Deb said the state government was hopeful of an amicable settlement to the Darjeeling stalemate (STALEMATE???????? according to whom?)……………… This is a contradiction in itself – and AK Deb and like minded people “who coin such phrases – as “STALEMATE” can hope all they want unless tangible and visible retractions as well as “granting of proper rights” are made – but the reality on the ground is that - “Hills to be inspected by Army n CRPF” is a move of worried politicians…………… The deployment of CRPF again (as in 1986 – 22 years ago) will maybe result in another 27th July 1986 incident and bloodshed, and will ultimately lead to the marksman shooting of CRPF Chief RK Handa in Kalimpong in 1988……………Furthermore, news items like …”Crack team to tackle Darjeeling flare-ups; OUR CORRESPONDENT - The Telegraph……………… Siliguri, July 4:”………….. A commando force likely to be armed with assault rifles and automatic pistols has been raised to encounter “riot-like” situations in Darjeeling district………….. “The basic idea is to maintain a stand-alone force and trained personnel in police stations to handle riot-like situations or any other serious breach of law and order,” district superintendent of police Rahul Srivastava said …………………… “Considering some of the past incidents and the vulnerability of the area, the decision to raise the force was taken,” he added…………………… The commandos, to be stationed in Darjeeling town and Siliguri, will be under the district police chief’s command……(and where is Mr Rahul stationed???? In a Silly-Place????)……………….. Police sources said senior officers selected young and able constables for the force following instructions from Calcutta……..(why not get the best from the Gorkha hills itself ????????)…………………. Srivastava refused to speak in detail on the arms and ammunition the crack teams were likely to carry but sources said they would be armed with “sophisticated weapons like 9mm pistols and assault rifles”……………………… And “THE GORKHALAND CHESS GAME” continues…….. The Queen of the Gorkha hills first used its Pawns (the innocent, but frustrated population of the hills whose patience has run out), moved and sent its Bishops (who have already visited Kolkata and Delhi and who now have been asked for a show of GOODWILL………..that is why the “Indefinite-(but-Intermittent)-Bandh” was relaxed………GOOD MOVE”), then comes the time to subconsciously consider a time to Castle the King-Pins (somewhere in the inaccessible forests of the hills), and meanwhile move its Horses (who are currently being recruited and readied at Takvar and many other places in the Gorkhaland hills in the name of “GLPersonnel” for “social and natural disaster support” activities………….not showing CLAWS…….but sub-consciously making all are aware of its potential)…………. Now the question arises, ………….Does WB government want to – down time - see a “CHECK MATE” and thereby lose immense “FACE” that all decent minded Bengalis the world over will never forgive the WB Communist Govt for? Or, leave the table with “Grace” and “Condescension” as well as “Support” in the hands of the Central Government as the British did in 1947…………. The British (though far from decent and upright) were politically astute and socially graceful, and the “politicized Bengalis” can better the British by being smarter than them - as they prize themselves to be – by washing their hands off the Gorkhaland issue and handing the washing bowl to the Centre as Pontius Pilate did over the Crucifixion of Jesus…………… The Queen of Hill Stations has been abused long enough - so, its time to let go honorably - as an abused bride is……………………. Divorce is inevitable - lest the Queen take on the mantle of “Goddess Durga”………………. Imagine a decade down time - when the people of Darjeeling - having gone through yet more bloodshed and problems - get back at every innocent Bengali and equate them with the current WB Govt. Lost will be the pleasures of Darjeeling for them for a long time to come……………….. So, the time is right "to let go" and to let go honorably……………….. Now, for the Central and WB State governments to further try to politicize the issue by dilly-dallying and stone-walling the Gorkhaland Issue ………… AND ignoring the All India Sentiment ………(((((((which incidentally points to 66 percent voting against “Does WB deserve Darjeeling?” poll done RECENTLY by The Statesman)))))))………….. as well as the support of the communist vote bank of the West Bengal leaders as well as their supporter’s sentimental ego - by making irresponsible remarks about the Gorkhas - as is evident - is to further fan and ignite the Gorkhaland flames………………. Had the Indian Central Government thoughtfully and ON TIME granted the demand for the 6th Schedule status passed by the WB Government about the Darjeeling hill areas in 2002-2003; after 15 years of simmering but relatively bloodless peace with no underlying ethinic tensions since 1989 - but with no tangible development due to the “holding on to all the reigns of sanctioning funds” misrule and shortsightedness of the West Bengal Government - the matter would have appeased the Gorkhas as a "major victory" and would have defused the entire Gorkhaland issue………………. But deliberate dithering and purposeful dilly-dallying on the 6th Schedule Issue over the past 5 years, due to the power struggles in Delhi, struck the spark that has now, in 2008, again reignited the hills…………………….(and the Gorkhas have woken up to the reality of the 6th Schedule Status and its difficulties, although giving CREDIT where it is due, would have UNITED all the GORKHAS with an undisputed IDENTITY)……… It is foolhardy, for all fellow Indians, to think that burying the Gorkhaland issue - as an ostrich does its head - or using an iron fist, deploying the CRPF, WB Commando Police Force or the Indian Army, will somehow solve the issue, is just being naive………………. Because, now the Gorkhas of the Darjeeling Hills areas have lost their patience. And we all know that when a Gorkha gets angry – even the most powerful, callous, brutal and inhumane people shiver……………………….. How so: when your trusted, loyal and subservient ‘Bahadur’ turns his psychological “Khukuri” on you, or on our “All Indian” family? A rude awakening then awaits. Keep your “Bahadur” happy with timely “Granting Of Rights Keeps Humanity Altruistic” attitude and all we Indians can sleep easy………………as may the Indian “GORKHAs”…….. Good political sense would be for the Central Government as well as the upright WB Govt to now stand tall and realize that the Chicken’s Neck, as the Gorkhaland area is labled, cannot be “slit, starved nor strangled”…………………… Now: instead of doing the noble and correct thing - as may not be possible for most politicians, then - only for the sake of India’s most important “National Security” issue (and if Statehood or the 6th Schedule is not a palatable solution) then granting Union Territory Status, may be the only honorable and safe way out. No sensible Indian would want to slit the goose’s neck by being callous, indifferent or negligent……………… The storm in the “All India Cup” is brewing – who knows when this storm will turn into a level 8 Hurricane - with weather patterns drastically changing the world over……………. We Indians wouldn’t want the Gorkhas to turn Maoists – would we? (The ISI and PLA may be licking their chops.) The possibility is currently unimaginable but someday, in the not too distant future, sadly possible…………….”AND HOW LONG IS THIS UNSAVORY CHESS GAME GOING TO CONTINUE????” Till Gorkhaland someday becomes another “Kashmir????” ………… It’s currently a SAD, SAD SITUATION but ASPIRATIONS SPRING ETERNAL……ANYONE HAVE NEW MOVES OR STRATEGIES……..A Non-Gorkha Indian

  • image It sounds ridiculous when the so called leader Mr. Gurung, says somethings one fine morining, and takes is back by the evening! What is leader???!!! Wheres your credibility man? Do not simply play with the emotion and simplicity of the Nepalese, they are really innocent people. They can be drawn to any direction easily. it would be nice to see Mr. Gurung coming down to Siliguri with GL marked vehicle. You can be put behind bars for using a fake vehicle my dear man. and worse is that if you meet with an accident, you get (0) from the insurance companies. dnt be so fooooolish and get others too into trouble. you are not the only one living in Darjeeling. Anyway all the best for your dream GL, if not in this life, atleast in the next life.
