The year’s first monsoon strikes in Darjeeling hills

Darjeeling, May 29: The unexpected access of the 48 hours of constant heavy shower caused the havoc in Darjeeling hills which was not imagined just a day before, as the climate was perfectly suitable for the tourists and visitors of Darjeeling hills. The bumper tourist seasons was witnessed in Darjeeling from all parts of India and abroad before this natural calamity but noticeable Bengali tourists were present in Darjeeling town this time.

Most severely affected area in Darjeeling was Frimal village from Singamari were about 22 families were evacuated. Casualties were held at Haridas Hatta, Jawahar Busty (Manpari Busty), Ghoom, Kakjhora. Father and son are still missing from Haridas Hatta landslide location, they were helping in the site as volunteers. Local people are actively supporting the mishap victims and community halls are being widely used for the shelters of landslide victims. Prayers are also being conducted for departed souls in different parts of Darjeeling town.

DarjeelingTimes extremely regrets our inability to update news for last four days as we have been severely affected by the recent nature’s devastation in Darjeeling hills. We have been completely out of electricity for two days. Our Internet connection has been dead as the landslide struck in railway station, our internet cable connection had been multiple damaged and it took four days to fix the problem.

OUR HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES AND WE SINCERELY PRAY FOR THE DEPARTED SOULS DURING THIS NATURAL CALAMINITY OCCURRED IN DARJEELING HILLS

First of all, we should take these people to the court, who is in the power and was aware of the consequences of the storm. Damaged has been done! Point blank........ Second of all, lets help each other.... We will always lament for those who have lost there near and dear ones!

ACP yumthang, your comments are unwarranted. Instead of appreciateing the help the GLP is rendering, you go on to criticize their action. You appear to be a Bengal ko chamcha. Use your chamchapan to bring in relief fund for these landslide.

It's time to learn the lesson and be prepared for the worse, God forbid this type of natural calamity to strike again. One stroke of Aila carried out such vast destruction of lives and properties, lands and animals so what will happen if natural forces like cyclone, hurricane, earthquake and landslides regularly trigger. Preparation and planning are of vital importance in mountainous regions like Darjeeling. My humble prayers and thoughts are always with all those victims of cruel aila.

The culprits here are the municipality authorities, the bureacrats, the district administration, the state government et al. The administration responsible for the upkeep of the law has been breaking it by taking bribes from owners of illegal constructions.When life and property is lost they scapegoat Nature. A typical example will be that of Kurseong town. Where a huge illegal construction has come up in the from of a hotel named 'New Amarjeet'. Constructed on what was a retaining wall that bleeds sewage even in winter, the structure is a ticking time-bomb...suggestive of the avarice of the owners, the corruption of the municipality engineers, the ineffectiveness of the chairperson, and the ineptness of the SDO. The day it comes hurtling down on the residents below will be the day they will again scapegoat nature or some other 'invisible hand' .That day again will be a day to shed 'crocodile tears' as we do now. We are such posers.

Ke ho GLP? Are they equiped and qualified? Are they trained by the professional? In such calamities Army's help is more important in order to save lives because its there work and duty.And they are more suitable.Abo ago lagda poni India ko Fire brigade naayera GLP nai aucha? yo GLP vaney ko Council ko bhui futuwa teacher haru jasto ta hoina? Policing,good administration shouldnt be compromised.
