The 2007 February 14, which delivered the snow in Darjeeling since 19 February 1985, coinciding with Valentine Day. Darjeeling today woke up blanketed in six inches of stunning white snow. Tiger hill recorded as 10 inches of snow and Falut regions recorded more than 1 ft. Snowfall took everyone by surprise as the day before temperatures had been relatively high.
Snowfall began around 3 am, the snow flakes fell uninterrupted for over six hours, gathering more than six inches of snow by end of it. Darjeeling experienced the heaviest snowfall in February after many years. The entire Darjeeling hills remained cold as well, witnessed the incessant rain throughout the day.
The local residents and tourists were delighted, since 6 in the morning they were gathered in Chowrasta, scooping up balls of snow and throwing them at each other. At the same time, normal life of Darjeeling has been disrupted by heavy snowfall, electricity, telephones, mobiles were totally out of order. The most shops and offices were closed today. Minimum vehicles were on the streets with difficulties to ply on the snow. Roads linking to Darjeeling remained completely cut-off.
