Drinking water problem is the subject of state Govt.
Darjeeling; To solve the water problem in West Bengal, Centre has sanctioned Rs 14,092 lakh for the year 2006 / 07, under the scheme Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), to Bengal Govt. The sum of Rs. 7046 Lakh, 50 per cent of the scheme, the first installment has been already given to Bengal Govt. as per the project Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme on 31 August 2006, mentioned in the letter to Mr. Suraj Pathak, MP, by Dr. Raghubansh Prasad Singh, Central Rural minister.
Dr. Singh further added, the subject of drinking water is directly concerned of State government. State Government should develop the infrastructure and provide the drinking water system. Centre Govt. sanction the budget as per the scheme ARWSP based on population, physical condition, water quality etc. The state government should make the proper plan and project on water supply system in the state based on ARWSP budget by concerned department.
Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr. Buddhadev Bhattacharya, inaugurated the “Balasan water project” on 19 February 2006 at Chawrasta, Darjeeling. The Hi-tech remote control button system was used, to inaugurate the Balasan water project. Even after 9 months of inauguration, nothing has been done in this regards by State Government.
