University of Sikkim vs. NBU

Darjeeling: This winter parliament session could not through Sixth Schedule bill but the neighboring state Sikkim has been able to acquired green signal for University along with three other North East states.
 
Dr. Mahendra P Lama, political and economic advisor of Sikkim, expressed his opinions that Colleges and students of Darjeeling hills should take benefits from University of Sikkim.  There are differences of education system and geographic condition between North Bengal University and Darjeeling hills, but Sikkim and Darjeeling have many similarities. General public, students and concerned organizations of Darjeeling hills should coerce Government to affiliate all the Colleges of Darjeeling hills with University of Sikkim, which will increase the standard of education in the hills.

Meanwhile, AGSU, All Gorkha Student Union, has threatened to launch street protest against the step motherly behavior of state and Central government towards Darjeeling hills. AGSU has been demanding the University in Darjeeling hills since 1998.
