DARJEELING(WB): The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) representatives would demand immediate transfer of departments/establishments to the GTA during the meeting with West Bengal Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra.

Senior Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader, Jyoti Rai today said they (GTA) would seek clarifications from the state government regarding the transfer of control of some establishments like schools, health centres and panchayat bodies located in 18 mouzas which had been transferred to the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) when the tripartite agreement involving Centre, state government and GNLF was signed in 1988.

KOLKATA: The Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) has chosen RD Meena as its new secretary. This was announced by GTA counsel in Calcutta High Court which is hearing a plea challenging the appointment of Darjeeling District Magistrate as the secretary of the hill body. The court has directed the government to appoint Meena as the GTA secretary within a week. Last week, the government said that it would send a list of four names to the GTA from which it could select one of the officers as its secretary

SILIGURI: Embroiled in troubles from different angles, two old political friends are coming closer once again leavening the recently brewed up bitterness off. The first one in these is the ruling party of West Bengal Trinamool Congress(TMC) and the second one is Gorkha Janamukti Morcha(GJM), that is asking for separate statehood for Darjeeling hills.

April 23: A Gorkha Janmukti Morcha delegation today met chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers’ Buildings in Calcutta to convey party chief Bimal Gurung’s “best wishes” to her.

“We came to meet her because she has not been feeling well. We conveyed our (the GTA) chief executive’s best wishes for her prompt recovery. He has also invited the chief minister to the Darjeeling hills,” Morcha general secretary Roshan Giri said after the meeting.

‘Tense’ agent taken ill in Siliguri

April 22: An agent of the Saradha Group fell ill in Siliguri today after a three-hour demonstration while investors hit the streets with placards asking the chief minister to give them back their money or provide them with poison.
