April 23: A Gorkha Janmukti Morcha delegation today met chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers’ Buildings in Calcutta to convey party chief Bimal Gurung’s “best wishes” to her.

“We came to meet her because she has not been feeling well. We conveyed our (the GTA) chief executive’s best wishes for her prompt recovery. He has also invited the chief minister to the Darjeeling hills,” Morcha general secretary Roshan Giri said after the meeting.

‘Tense’ agent taken ill in Siliguri

April 22: An agent of the Saradha Group fell ill in Siliguri today after a three-hour demonstration while investors hit the streets with placards asking the chief minister to give them back their money or provide them with poison.

Darjeeling, April 19: The state government today forwarded a panel of four IAS officers’ names to the GTA Sabha chief executive to choose the next principal secretary of the hill body, minutes after Calcutta High Court had been told that although the list was ready, it was yet to be signed by the chief minister.

Darjeeling, April 18: Bimal Gurung today called Subash Ghisingh a “spent force” in the hills, hours after the ousted hill leader’s party GNLF said it would be revive its branch committees soon.

Darjeeling, April 17: Two members of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha who were arrested yesterday for allegedly vandalising the house of GNLF leader Bhanu Lama were set free today though they have been charged under non-bailable sections.

Pema Pradhan, 40, and Vikram Sherpa, 37, were arrested last night and they were granted bail today by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Darjeeling.
