Darjeeling, May 6: Edith Wilkins Street Children Foundation Darjeeling, World Vision Darjeeling and Performers without borders organized an awareness on Child Labour at Chowrasta Darjeeling. It was a very beautiful awareness camp with PWB showing their talents and entertaining the young and the old. However, there was no government representative present on the occasion.
Kalimpong: Lepcha Dance & competition (Renyoo Aazem Rrebecca Namchyoomoo) held in Kalimpong on April 28. The chief guest of the programme was Ren. Michael Way (England), a book “Lepcha life in 2011” - an illustration art work on Lepcha people by Chendup Lepcha, compiled, translated and edited by Lyangsong Tamsang, released during the occasion.
Darjeeling, March 27: The people of Darjeeling along with the NGOs and civil society have been disapproved the beatification of Chowrasta. The mass protest has been witnessed at Chowrasta today. The Chattray Subba from Kalimpong also visited the site.
Chowrasta, the ultimate destination of Darjeeling town, not only for tourists but also for the locals. The Chowrasta is usually known for the peace and natural beauties of Darjeeling, where one can visibly witness the clouds underneath and spectacular Kanchanjanga right next to you. However, after the construction of permanent stage at the east side of it during the reign of Subash Ghisingh, Chowrasta turned into alternative to Chowkbazaar for various political and social programs, mainly due to presence of large audiences available anytime. There has been a great contribution of Chowrasta for second phase of Gorkhaland agitation. However, local people were always against and dismayed with such disturbances at Chowrasta.

Darjeeling, January 1: Rachana Rai of Darjeeling has been declared as a “Pragya Sushree 2011”, in an event of Fashion Show held at Chowrasta on Saturday. The inter-college competition was organized by Bidharthi Morcha and Tea & Tourism festival committee. Similarly, in a male category, Raunak Pradhan has been declared as a “Pragya Shree 2011”.
