Chowrasta, the ultimate destination of Darjeeling town, not only for tourists but also for the locals. The Chowrasta is usually known for the peace and natural beauties of Darjeeling, where one can visibly witness the clouds underneath and spectacular Kanchanjanga right next to you. However, after the construction of permanent stage at the east side of it during the reign of Subash Ghisingh, Chowrasta turned into alternative to Chowkbazaar for various political and social programs, mainly due to presence of large audiences available anytime. There has been a great contribution of Chowrasta for second phase of Gorkhaland agitation. However, local people were always against and dismayed with such disturbances at Chowrasta.

Darjeeling, January 1: Rachana Rai of Darjeeling has been declared as a “Pragya Sushree 2011”, in an event of Fashion Show held at Chowrasta on Saturday. The inter-college competition was organized by Bidharthi Morcha and Tea & Tourism festival committee. Similarly, in a male category, Raunak Pradhan has been declared as a “Pragya Shree 2011”.

Darjeeling, December 20: The grand opening of 17- day festival has begun in Darjeeling with many extravaganzas and in presence of Bollywood actresses like Jeenat Aman, Mohima Chaudhari and Minister Gautam Dev. The festival is organized by GJMM (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha – political party of Darjeeling hills) and Darjeeling district administration.

Darjeeling, December 20: Lepchas of Darjeeling hills observed the 280th birth anniversary of Lepcha King Gaeaboo Achyok's  in Kalimpong today. Chief Guest of programme was Mr. Michal Way of England, who is research scholar on Lepcha community.

Darjeeling, November 20: GJMM Central committee in presence of their president Mr. Bimal Gurung has been unanimously selected presidents and vice-presidents of Municipalities of Darjeeling hills except Mirik. All the candidates of GJMM have been elected without contest, which is scheduled to be held on December 11.

Amar Singh Rai and Sukh Bahadur Biswakarma have been announced as Chairman and Vice Chairman of Darjeeling Municipality respectively.
