Mukesh Sharma, Kalimpong, May 4: One person was dead and another missing when a loaded Canter WB 73 B 4552 fell down approximately 150 ft in the Teesta River near Gelkhola area of national highway 31A. The vehicle was spotted by the locals who then informed the Teesta police, the police reached the spot and recovered the body of the helper Budda Tiruwa, resident of Birick Dara NH31A, where as the body of the driver Nima Sherpa resident of Algarah was not found in the vehicle, he is expected to have been swept by the river, police and rafting rescue group has started searching for the missing driver. The vehicle was going toward Sikkim from Siliguri. As Kalimpong witnessed heavy rainfall yesterday night, the accident may have been caused due to the slippery condition in which driver may have lost the control of the vehicle. The post mortem of the helper has been conducted in Kalimpong sub divisional hospital and the body has been handed over to the relatives.
